Vacancy for an Cultural and Linguistic Mediator, Save the Children’s Refugees and Migrants Crisis in Serbia - National Post

Save the Children in Serbia seeks Cultural and Linguistic Mediators for Farsi language, based in Belgrade.

 

The job holder’s role is:

Translator/cultural mediator will act as a member of the assessment team and she/he will be especially responsible for:

  • Supporting the assessment team in communication with refugees.
  • Translation of tools and instruments that will be used throughout the assessment.
  • Simultaneous translation during the assessment.
  • Supporting the assessment team in compiling field notes.

 

Duration of the post: 7days with possibility of an extension through partner organization.

 

CHILD SAFEGUARDING:

 

Level 3 – the responsibilities of the post may require the post holder to have regular contact with or access to children or young people

The successful candidate should have the following knowledge, skills, and abilities through a combination of formal schooling, self-education, prior experience, or on-the-job training.

  • Completion of Secondary School Education with post-Secondary training/certificate in the relevant functional area is desired but not mandatory.
  • Minimum 2 to 4 years of previous relevant work experience.
  • Excellent knowledge (both spoken and written) of English and/or Serbian (preferably both).
  • Excellent knowledge (both spoken and written) in Farsi.
  • Knowledge of one or more than one of the following languages will be considered a strong asset:Arabic,  Urdu, Dari, Bengali, Pashtu, Kurdish, Turkish, Somali and French
  • High ability to adapt to flexible working hours, long field visits, an intense and stressful circumstances and workload.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, intercultural sensitivity and teamwork
  • Strong computer skills, including the use of Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint and operational use of keyboard in Arabic, Farsi and/or Urdu.
  • Ability to work in a team as well as independently and proactively.
  • Excellent attention to detail, organizational skills and discretion with confidential information.
  • Commitment to upholding Save the Children’s Child Safeguarding Policy, as well as principles of do no harm and confidentiality.
  • Approachable, good listener, easy to talk to.
  • Training in interpreting or in intercultural mediation.
  • Knowledge or experience of NGOs / humanitarian work.
  • Experience in working with refugees and migrants or other vulnerable populations.
  • Strong understanding of the child protection in emergencies.
