Save the Children in Serbia seeks a Knowledge Management and Innovation Coordinator

The Knowledge Management and Innovation Coordinator will take the lead on documenting the innovative programming methodologies and overall knowledge gained since the beginning of the response to the refugee and migrant crisis in the Balkans. The post-holder will document and disseminate tested evidence-based models of support to refugee and migrant children and their families that can be replicated where relevant across the Balkans and beyond. The post-holder will build linkages; based on lessons learnt and best practices developed; between the Greece & Balkans Response, and the wider Migration and Displacement initiatives across Save the Children and beyond. The Coordinator will be responsible for developing tools which promote peer-to-peer knowledge sharing within SC & partners, and will build upon the monitoring, evaluation, accountability and research progress gained to ensure that internal lessons are shared through a network of thought leaders within the organization, and to bring in external capacity as needed.

  • Promote the development of a culture for capturing and sharing knowledge and cross learning
  • Work with SC staff and local partners, document tested evidence-based models of support to refugee and migrant children and their families, capturing innovative programming methodologies.
  • Ensure that learning and best practices of programming for child refugees and child migrants (urban and camp settings, regular and irregular routes, fast transit, longer stay, and integration programming) are documented and shared for impact at scale and replication elsewhere, as appropriate
  • Contribute to existing data bases and/or build a data base to ensure learning from developed models of support, evaluations, reports, and other relevant information which are easily retrievable and updated 
  • Provide a knowledge and learning management lens in reviewing and strengthening program designs/proposals; ensuring that key decisions are based on robust primary or secondary data analysis and research  
  • Create, promote and help to facilitate opportunities for cross learning and information sharing with the Greece Response
  • Build learning and best practice linkages between the Greece & Balkans Response and the wider Migration and Displacement initiatives across Save the Children and beyond
  • Develop tools and processes which promote peer-to-peer knowledge sharing within SC & partners
  • Promote information and lessons learned sharing between SC teams in countries of origin, countries of transit, and countries of destination
  • Connect to wider global SC initiatives and external Knowledge Management and Innovation initiatives as appropriate
  • Provide support to the development of evidence-based programming, advocacy, donor reporting and policy development
  • Work with the Response staff in Serbia, Croatia and FYROM to promote the successful establishment and implementation of Knowledge Management Systems, closely linked with the MEAL process 
  • Support research projects and assist in identifying/working with reputable research partners
  • Work with and train SC local partners in delivering quality results for knowledge and learning management
  • Support and encourage staff to share knowledge, ensuring they are aware of the knowledge management resources available to support their work

Please note that this position requires presents in the field and the applicant must therefore be available for travel.

Duration of the post: six months with possibility of an extension.


CHILD SAFEGUARDING: Level 3 – the responsibilities of the post may require the post holder to have regular contact with or access to children or young people


The successful candidate should have the following knowledge, skills, and abilities through a combination of formal schooling, self-education, prior experience, or on-the-job training.

  • Qualification (master’s degree preferred) in a relevant field such as project management, social sciences or development studies, public administration, or other analysis based program
  • Minimum five years working experience, with some experience working on knowledge and learning management
  • Experience working in an emergency response contexts or fragile states.
  • Previous experience working with international and/or non-governmental organizations, and/or state institutions. 
  • Representational experience - ability to represent Save the Children effectively in external forums.
  • Significant amount of participation in research projects and experience in communication/dissemination of research findings to different audiences
  • Excellent knowledge and experience with different methodological approaches and various quantitative and qualitative research and data analysis methods/tools/instruments
  • Excellent organizational, planning and time management skills, ability to effectively prioritise
  • Good interpersonal and negotiation skills and ability to work confidently and constructively with colleagues.
  • Experience working effectively in a diverse team and maintaining good working relationships
  • Detail oriented, proactive approach to problem solving and ability to gather, collate, analyse and systematise information
  • Politically and culturally sensitive with qualities of patience, tact and diplomacy
  • Good writing and presentation skills and computer literacy
  • Proficiency in written and spoken English
  • Commitment to and understanding of Save the Children’s aims, values and principles


  • Experience working on the European refugee and migrant crisis response
  • Experience preparing successful funding proposals for donors
  • Previous capacity building and training experience
